A Little Slice of Vegetable Heaven

Garlic, oriental eggplant, heirloom tomatoes, purple peppers, a black "cannonball" watermelon, cucumbers and squash--all the colors of the rainbow, all organic, and a gift from my yoga instructor.  A week's worth of veggies.  In other words, vegetable heaven!
My yoga instructor 's studio is also the drop off point every week between May and October for cartons of seasonal produce from Spiral Path Farm in Loysville.  The farm is a CSA enterprise, "Community Supported Agriculture", which means that Spiral Path is essentially owned by it's customers.   A "subscription" to the Farm can take you from sugar snap peas in May, strawberries in June(the absolute BEST), eggplant in July, more squash than you can possibly eat in August, potatoes in September and pumpkins in October.
And you never know what your box might contain--I have to admit, there have been times when I've opened the box to find something I didn't recognize, usually some kale-like leafy thing.  If not for the recipes that are tucked in the box, some things would go uneaten.
These days, there are often a few boxes left unclaimed, due to families being away on vacation.  Rather than go to waste, my instructor just hands them out.
And today, I was lucky!
I'm going to slice the heirloom tomatoes, snip some basil on top, drizzle on some balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper, and call it a meal.  And the black cannonball watermelon is for breakfast!
Thanks  Petra!
