Rhapsody In August

Movie Night At The House Of Meditation

Saturday July 30, 7 p.m.

Rhapsody in August, a visually stunning film by director Akira Kurosawa will be shown at the House of Meditation this Saturday night.
This contemporary drama, set in the countryside surrounding Nagasaki, tells the story of an aging grandmother who saw the Atomic blast of 1945 from a distance, her children and grandchildren, and the family of her long-lost brother who had emigrated to America and married an American woman.
Now he wants to see his sister again before he dies, and sends his son, played by Richard Gere, to Japan to "meet the family".
The film is moving and filled with a humor typical to Kurosawa's work.

A discussion will follow, and of course you are welcome to bring refreshments.
