Interview Charlotte Joko Beck

Charlotte Joko Beck died on June 15, 2011. She was 92.
I consider her one of my Dharma teachers; her book Nothing Special finding it's way into my hands about 5 years ago, which completely transformed my way of thinking about enlightenment and the daily practice of living our lives as best we can, with what we have.
She was a Dharma heir of Taizan Maezumi Roshi of the White Plum Asangha. In 1983 she opened the San Diego Zen Center where she served as head teacher until 2006. Beck's primary focus was on simply finding practice within ones life, that our lives will show us at every moment how to awaken. She had a knack for focusing positively on psychological states of being that many teachers have ignored as deterrent to ones awakening--from her perspective, it was all grist for the mill of transformation and liberation.
My sincere gratitude for what she realized and shared! She will be missed.
