Candles On The Water

This Sunday, August 8, 7 p.m. at Market Square Presbyterian Church at 20 South Second Street in Harrisburg, we will celebrate Candles On The Water, a beautiful ceremony of peace and remembrance. There will be several guest speakers, including myself, speaking on behalf of interfaith communities and the Harrisburg-Hiroshima-Nagasaki Committee. This committee was created in 1985 as a response to the belief that all beings deserve to live in a world free of nuclear proliferation and destruction. A sister organization in Japan also takes part in the ceremony, half a world away.
I will bless the Candle Boats, which have been created by children and adults in memory of those who have passed away in the last year, as well as those whose prayers for peace and justice are commemorated on the sails of the Boats.
We will then all walk to the banks of the Susquehanna River, where the Candle Boats will be lit and set free on the river.
This event is free and open to all, and promises to be a lovely event.
